vibrant student living
New 163 bed student accommodation development close to Worcester University Campus.
Space is moving forward on a new student living development close to Worcester University’s main St John’s campus and its Arena site, close to the city centre.
The development is part of Space’s mission to create vibrant communities through collective and connected living. This sustainable residential student development centres around the regeneration of one of Worcester City’s largest and most historic listed buildings.
The team have been working in close collaboration with Worcester Conservation and Planning to sensitively convert the existing building and complete the design for a new building next to it. The scheme will contribute to the local area and regenerate and breathe new life into the site.
The student accommodation buildings will provide a mixture of cluster flats and self-contained studios.
The main building will offer accommodation for 87 students, all of which are en-suite, the main building will also house offices, student communal areas and services. The Cottage to the rear of the site will accommodate four students in an en-suite cluster, while the new building in the south west corner of the site will provide accommodation for 72 students in a mixture of en-suite bedrooms and shared facilities.
All three buildings surround and open onto a large courtyard, leading to the communal lounges.
Space has appointed J Tomlinson Limited (JTL) as the main contractor for the build.
JTL is an experienced Midlands based company, that has a strong heritage and high standards and values, built on vast multi-sector experience of delivering building solutions. They have significant experience in student accommodation, which has made them the partner of choice for this project.
Work on Albert Halls has commenced on site, with main contract works expecting to start in July 2020, with a target date for completion of August 2021.
Albert Halls will be available to students for the start of the 2021/2022 academic year.
Tim Edghill, Principal at Space Asset Services said "This new and exciting student living project in the heart of Worcester’s student area will breathe new life and purpose into a magnificent historic building and deliver vibrancy into the local community.
The refurbished building and new accommodation blocks aim to create an inclusive space where the residents feel part of a community where they belong and can thrive in their studies".
